Cover designs
The goal was to create a design that visually reflected the same high quality as the excellent essays appearing in the journal. The primary challenge was to design a template that maintained a consistent identity for each cover but also provided the variety necessary to ensure that each cover would have a fresh identity.
Although the works displayed here are all cover designs, the original scope of the project required a redesign of the entire journal. This included creating grid templates for the interior, with specifications for such design elements as type font, type size, leading, paragraph styles, headings, subheadings, and the size and placement of photographs. As with architecture, the cover always conveys the critical first impression; it is the design of the inside, however, that determines its ultimate success.
