Exhibition Catalog
Goldie Paley Gallery
Moore College of Art & Design
Philadelphia, 1991
A representative distillation of the five thousand Joseph Hoffmann drawings from the archives of the Austrian Museum of Applied Art, Vienna. Hoffmann founded the Wiener Werkstatte (Vienna Workshops) in 1933. Under Hoffmann’s tutelage, the masters and artisans of the Werkstatte pioneered a harmonizing aesthetic that equalized fine art, craft, integrated ornament with function, and envisioned towns, houses, utensils, clothing, language, and feelings as inseparable components of a total art environment.
